Happy Thanksgiving!

In preparation for Thanksgiving I thought a geometric bauble print would be a stylish start to the festive season to get everyone in the christmas spirit.

Cute Koala!

I was at Edinburgh zoo at the weekend and although I saw some amazing animals there was one little koala that I fell in love with, he was fast asleep and curled round a tree, soooo cute!!  So I thought I would use him as my illustration inspiration today.

Mini chocolate cakes!

Here is the recipe, I used a chocolate cake recipe from BBC Good Food http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/easy_chocolate_cake_31070 and made mini ones from it as I have used it before and it is yummy!!

Ingredients:

chocolate cake:

225g plain flour
350g caster sugar
85g cocoa powder
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1 1/2 tsp bicarbonate of soda
2 free range eggs
250ml milk
125ml vegetable oil
2 tsp vanilla extract
250ml boiling water

blue butter icing:

140g butter, softened
280g icing sugar
1-2 tbsp milk
a few drops of blue food colouring

Method:

Preheat the oven to 180C/350F and grease and line two cake tins

The cake is so easy to make, just simply put all the ingredients into a mixing bowl except from the water and beat until smooth

The water should be added a little at a time and then pour the mixture equally into the two cake tins

Put the cakes in the oven for 30-35 minutes and then leave to cool

Once completely cool the cakes can be made into mini cakes by using a cake cutter so all the cakes will be the same size (it also means there are leftover cuttings to taste test!! Always a bonus) The cakes can be doubled up with pretty blue icing in the middles

For the blue icing simply mix all the ingredients together in a mixing bowl and use a piping bag to decorate however you wish, this is my favourite part!  I also sprinkled blue crystals on mine to give them a little shimmer but you can be as creative as you like.

I used a Tesco piping bag kit which comes with different shaped nozzles and plenty of piping bags so you can do various colours

Enjoy!!

Rain Rain Rain

As its been raining all day long I thought I would do some cheerful raindrops!

Back to School Project

My illustration inspiration for a back to school project - pretty painted pencils

I started with some plain pencils and painted them white

I decided to create a dip dye effect by taking a bit of sponge and using three tones of each colour then starting with the strongest shade I worked my way down the pencil and finally blending it into the white!

I think the yellow ones are my favourite!
